Cheerleaders Shine on Guinness World Records Day

Cheerleaders Shine on Guinness World Records Day

Cheerleaders from across the Mid-South broke the Guinness Book World Record for largest cheerleading dance in history at the UCA Mid-South Regional cheerleading competition held November 7 at the University of Memphis.
With Guinness World Records Day celebrated on November 12 worldwide, numerous attempts to break records are held on this date. The group of cheerleaders gave their dance a shot in hopes to be one of many recorded in the latest Guinness World Records Book, and they were successful!
A total of 297 cheerleaders successfully participated in the dance, where they cheered and danced for five and a half minutes. They performed a sideline cheer from camp and the “Cupid Shuffle.” To participate in breaking the record, participants had to be registered, properly uniformed, and well-rehearsed in the dance. Representatives from Guinness World Records were present at the event to time the participants and award them with a certificate.
This dance performance broke a record set by a group of 225 cheerleaders at an event sponsored by Baskin Robbins in August.
“Our cheerleaders are honored to represent the United States during Guinness World Records Day,” said John Newby, UCA general manager and senior vice president. “This record is a shining example of the enthusiastic spirit, competitive drive, and dedication that lives in every cheerleader.”
